It's extremely probable that very good things are going to happen when you bring together two culinary heavyweights from Lancashire and Yorkshire for a one off evening of brilliance.
If you are unfamiliar with either Northcote or "The Star" series of eateries from Chef Andrew Pern, it is likely you have not spent much time dining here in the North.
The Star Inn The City, Andrew's second venture, is a particular favorite of discerning diners in York due to its eclectic menu and perfect location on the riverfront.
It also has strong links with Lancashire based and Michelin starred Northcote, as head chef Matt Hunter has worked with both Andrew at The Star and Northcote's Nigel Haworth.
I was extremely excited to therefore find out that both restaurants had decided to put on a special evening at The Star Inn The City, pooling their collective culinary styles and experience.
This was certainly not something to be missed...
The evening started with a great buzz, as Nigel and Andrew addressed the crowded bar and told us the story behind the evening and how such an event came to happen, wetting our appetite for the meal to come!
In terms of showing you the evening - I think I will have to let the pictures do the talking
To be perfectly honest, the whole meal was amazing with each dish holding its own against the menu (often you can find one dish carrying things with a tasting menu, which can be slightly dissapointing).
My only piece of constructive criticism has to be regarding the pace of the evening, which was a tad on the slow side.
The food however really did make up for the small waits between courses and for those looking to relax and ease into the whole evening, it was probably the perfect length of time to chat and catch up with old friends.
I must also mention the extremely friendly and impeccable service, something which the team managed despite what I'm sure was an extremely challenging shift! It was also highly appreciated when Andrew and Nigel came round at the end of the meal to chat and answer questions.
Now for the all important pictures!
You are warned, some serious food porn is imminent...
Canapes: arancini, stuffed with Yorkshire ham and cheese, sausage roll.
Goosnargh Chicken Liver Parfait, Grape Jelly and Sourdough Toast
Treacle Cured Salmon, Seared West Coast Scallop, Pickled Ginger and Coriander
Caramelised Celeriac and Chestnut Ravioli, served with a Celeriac Tea and Trompettes
Butter Puff Pastry Wrapped Lamb, Spinach and Crosne Artichokes
Bramley Apple Cheesecake’ Northcote Blackcurrants, Liquorice, Herbs and Flowers
(This really was the highlight of the evening - with the almost lifelike "apple" consisting of a yielding white chocolate shell, which disintegrated to reveal the cheesecake centre)
Eccles Cakes and Chocolate Truffles
I suppose the big question is; would I go again? Undoubtedly the answer would be yes, however it would be even more of a yes if the long evening had not been on a school night.
