Happy Sunday everyone! I hope your bellies are full of Sunday brunch and your day has been restful.
I just thought I would share a short round up of some of my adventures from the past week (mainly because I wanted to show off my *self promotion alert* half decent picture of a cheese board).
1. Loving all of the Cheese
Yesterday Des and I nipped down to an open day at one of my former haunts, Love Cheese on Gillygate in York, which has just reopened it's cafe and garden.
It was actually quite nice to have the excuse to walk into the city centre on a weekend, something which I usually avoid due to the crowds which descend on us at this time of year.
Needless to say, we couldn't stop by without sampling a cheese board, which we both proceeded to demolish like ravenous cheese eating wolves.
Next time we will be back to try out some of the wine pairings, which looked rather enticing....
2. Dinner Al Fresco with the YOAF gang
As part of the team behind York on a Fork, I'm proud to say that I work with people who I also consider as some of my closest pals.
On Friday we all got together to eat, drink and generally enjoy another beautiful summer's evening.
We usually hold some sort of dinner party every month or so, each with a different culinary theme.
This time it was an exploration of India, with a recipe kit from Rafi's Spice box and the expertise of Elly, who also has an amazing blog over at Nutmegs Seven.
3. Evenings in the Garden
Hot weather in the UK is basically an excuse to sit out in the garden with a glass of wine right?
Des and I have had a long standing battle with our outdoor space, as it was completely overgrown when we first moved in. It took a long time to subdue the abundance of nettles and brambles to actually make the space usable.
We have just about reached the point of control now and I'm happy to say that my herb pots are coming along nicely, boosted by the sunshine of the past week.
4. Recipe Testing for Sucre Kitchen
This was the first iteration of a Lavender Brioche I baked earlier in the kitchen for Sucre Kitchen, the new digital magazine I'm working on for the Clandestine Cake Club.
Version 1 was pretty successful, however I'm going to be refining things a little bit for the final recipe over the next week. I want to experiment a bit more with different ways of making a lavender glaze and perhaps some more elaborate dough plaiting.
You can get your hands on the final version by signing up to receive a FREE digital copy of the magazine when we publish our first issue on the 1st September!
5. Heading Outdoors
Despite having the apply factor 50 every 10 minutes, this recent spell of warm weather has been an absolute god send. (Apart from the day where it reached 33 degrees here in York and I basically melted all over my office.)
It actually doesn't look like Des and I will get a holiday this year, mainly because both of our work schedules are crazy. We have therefore been trying to make the most though of the sunshine here in the UK with a few trips out and about.
All of my fingers are crossed that we continue to get minimal rain and temperatures in the mid twenties, a girl can dream....
