At the beginning of 2017 I posted a list of goals for the year ahead. If I'm brutally honest with myself, I only managed to tick off three from a list of seven.
Instead of coming up with a whole new set of goals for 2018, I thought I would share a selection of the best "life advice" quotes I have either encountered externally or worked out for myself over the past year.
I will be the first one to admit that most of them are pretty prosaic, though I do the consider their underlying sentiment to be true and somewhat useful!
Success is 99% hard work and never comes overnight (It's also not a destination)
Social media shows people's highlights, not the full story. Treat it with caution.

The best time to start saving for your future is now
There is no standard template for happiness - you need to find what works for you
Don't sit around and wait for good things to happen, you've got to get out there are make your own luck
Never pass up an opportunity to use the toilet
Everything matters, but nothing matters that much
Your value as a human being does not lie in your wealth, possessions, position or aesthetic
If you're doing something hard, don't look up at the mountain. Focus on your feet and on taking the next step upwards.
Positive things generally happen to positive people
It's OK to be unsure - ask questions and accept help
Confidence is an entirely different beast to arrogance - it's important to understand the difference
Great teams get better results than one good person
Get your taxes in order WELL before the deadline
Do no harm and take no shit
On 9/10 occasions, cheese improves every dish
Try not to take anything personally. - no one thinks about you as much as you do.
Don't drink when you're upset (go for a walk instead)
Moving on is the best revenge
Never write down anything you wouldn’t want read out in court/to your grandparents
Always take a spare pair of pants in your hand luggage
Feelings are like clouds, they move on, even if it's at an imperceptible pace
Failure is an internal construct, not an external judgement
